Gym Profile Alcoser words and photos Esteban Erik Stipnieks

The year is 1990 Al Alcoser starts the modern era of female boxing in San Antonio Texas. Flash forward 2011. Its 10 am in the morning and from a jam box KZEP 104.5 starts and boxers start moving. It is something different….a boxing gym open at 10 am a morning session. The crowd is mainly sub novice and novice Golden Gloves boxers a veteran of the previous Golden gloves is amongst them. The group is mixed in terms of gender and purpose…..there are a couple college students and some cops mixed in a car salesman. This is community boxing.

Absent was Monica Alvarez who is 4-2 novice division coming out of 2 clear wins in 2 weeks (college project). Photos from her bout at Texas Wolverines can be here.

There were two aspiring sub novice looking at Golden Gloves. Laura Cordova was working out before heading to SA police academy. She is also an enforcement officer.

Team Alcoser gym is centrally located 1827 North St Mary’s a block north of I-35 two blocks west urban reach of river walk. College students $25 a month, Trial offer first two weeks free. The remaining 2 weeks $10.

For those with boxing aspirations or those who want to train with boxers and stay fit…..but have evening commitments Team Alcoser is an option.

The gym itself is a bit retro boxing old school looked to be 1930s an older classic building with a classic boxing gym vibe. For additional information call Mr. Alocser: (210) 722-5691

Due to its location Al E Alcoser has told me of tourists who added some morning boxing viewing as a part of their tour. The gym and the flavor rings true to San Antonio.
